The concert by Spanish crooner Julio Iglesias due to be held at Dubai World Trade Centre on Thursday night has been postponed until Friday night, with organisers saying the singer’s equipment did not arrive in time.

M4 Events and Sony Music Middle East issued a statement at 7pm saying they “regret to announce the re-scheduling of tonight’s World Legends Tour concert with Julio Iglesias due to the delay in dispatch of the concert equipment.”

The concert has been rescheduled for Friday, March 22 at the same venue. Tickets for Thursday’s concert are valid for the rescheduled show, and ticketholders who are unable to attend the rescheduled concert should contact their ticket retailer to claim a refund, organisers said.

The statement added that “Iglesias sincerely apologises to his fans, sponsors, people and Government of Dubai”.

“I love Dubai and was very much looking forward to sharing my show with you tonight,” Iglesias said in the statement. “I am deeply upset that my concert equipment did not leave as scheduled to arrive in Dubai on time. Had this have happened anywhere else in the world we would not have been able to reschedule the concert so quickly because in Dubai everything is possible.”

Iglesias is one of the music world’s top-selling artists, with sales of his albums reported to be over 300 million worldwide. He is currently on a world tour and in the last few days performed in Russia and Armenia, according to his official twitter account, @julioiglesias.

It’s not the first time the singer has cancelled a concert in the UAE. In December 2007, Iglesias postponed the Dubai leg of his tour days before it was due to take place, citing wildfires in California as the reason for the cancellation at that time
