Renowned lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar took to Twitter to express his admiration for the enduring friendship between Malayalam matinee idols Mohanlal and Mammootty.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Akhtar wrote:
“I wish every Mamooty of India had a friend like Mohan Lal and every Mohan Lal had a friend like Mamooty. It is obvious that their great friendship is beyond the understanding of some small, narrow minded, petty and negative people but who cares.”

His comments came in the wake of a controversy surrounding Mohanlal’s act of offering prayers at the Sabarimala temple on behalf of Mammootty. While some questioned the gesture, Akhtar’s support underscored the depth of their decades-long bond, highlighting how genuine friendships can rise above religious, social, or professional divides.

This show of solidarity comes at a time when Mammootty was the subject of unfounded health rumours.

In March 2025, social media buzz suggested the veteran actor had been diagnosed with cancer and was stepping away from films. However, Mammootty’s team swiftly dismissed the speculation, clarifying that the actor is in good health and is simply taking a short break from filming to observe fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.

At another press conference in India, Mohanlal also publicly reassured fans that Mammootty was doing well, further cementing the camaraderie between the two stars.

Meanwhile, Mammootty also extended hearty wishes for the release of his mate Mohanlal's Eid release L2: Empuraan.
