Jana Nayagan release date postponed? All about Thalapathy Vijay’s final film

Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited film Jana Nayagan, which was originally slated for an October 2025 release, will now hit theatres only in January 2026.

The makers officially confirmed the delay through a new poster (above), sparking a wave of curiosity among fans.

According to a report in Hindu Tamil, the postponement is a strategic move tied to the film’s digital release. Netflix, which has acquired the OTT rights, has already locked its 2025 release lineup.

To align with the platform’s schedule and ensure a smooth digital premiere, the makers opted for a 2026 theatrical release, possibly around Pongal.

Vijay is expected to complete shooting for Jana Nayagan by May 2025. With this marking his final film before fully transitioning into politics, expectations are sky-high.

The initial plan was to release the film during the festive October window, but Vijay’s growing political commitments and the OTT scheduling dynamics prompted the team to reschedule.

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan features a stellar ensemble cast including Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, and Priyamani.

Cinematographer Sathyan Sooryan and music composer Anirudh Ravichander round out the crew, making this a landmark project in Tamil cinema and a fitting swan song for Vijay’s acting career.
