Ivan Vera Mathiri takes on citizen responsibility

It’s common to point fingers at the government or the police when something goes wrong around us, often forgetting to question our responsibilities as citizens of a country.

But the story of upcoming Tamil film, Ivan Vera Mathiri, hopes otherwise.

Guna, the protagonist, is a visual communications graduate who considers it his responsibility when caught in a particular situation, and he personally takes charge to rectify an evil prevalent in society.

“He is different from the rest of us,” said director Saravanan.

“This is an action-based love story,” said Saravanan, who kick-started his career with the hit Tamil film Engaeyum Eppothum.

Legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan’s grandson, Vikram Prabhu, who made an impressive debut in Kumki, plays Guna. New-find Surabhi, a model from Delhi, makes her debut film as Guna’s lover.

Surabhi, who is pursuing her final year studying Fine Arts in Delhi, said: “Malini, my character, is a simple and sweet girl-next-door, who is studying in an engineering college.”

For the role she underwent a month-long workshop in dialogue delivery and modulation.

“I have always longed to become an actor,” she said, recalling her school days on stage. “This role came to me through auditions.”

“Malini is an integral part of the story,” said Saravanan, former assistant of director Murgadoss.

Like Engaeyum Eppothum, this story was inspired by a true-life incident.

“Ganesh Venkataraman plays a cop and, although he appears only in five scenes, his character will leave a mark in viewers’ minds,” said Saravanan, whose film dreams hark back to his childhood days in the Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu, where the only entertainment was the touring talkies. Vamsi Krishna is the antagonist in the story.

Ivan Vera Mathiri was shot in Chennai and Pondicherry and the toughest scenes included those involving an 18-storey building under construction.

Ivan Vera Mathiri is produced by UTV Motion Pictures and Thirrupathi Brothers Film Media, their next after Vettai.

Music is scored by C. Sathya.
