It’s official: Monty Python reuniting in July

Monty Python has made it official. The beloved British comedy group will be reuniting in July for a one-performance-only stage show at London’s O2 Arena. The surviving members of Monty Python made the announcement on Thursday at a comic press conference in London.

The conference featured Eric Idle, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Michael Palin and Terry Jones. (The sixth Python member Graham Chapman died in 1989.) During the event, they deliberately sat behind the wrong name cards, with each answering questions posed to other members.

Warwick Davis made a special appearance as the host of the conference. The diminutive actor joked that the city that bid the most for the reunion was Qatar.

Monty Python last reunited in 1998 at a performance at the American Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado. Details of the July 1 performance in London remain somewhat sketchy, but the group said on Thursday that the performance will feature a combination of new and existing material.

Following the press conference, the performers conducted a Reddit AUA (Ask Us Anything) session. (“Any plans to bring the show to NYC?” asked one participant. “Possibly,” replied Jones.) A Twitter feed for the reunion show has also been created at @MontyPythonLive.

An official website for the performance has also been created. The site comes with the tagline “One Down, Five to Go”.
