Arjun Rampal desperately needs a hit and he hopes Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai will be one
Five years is a long time in Bollywood. For Arjun Rampal, it feels like eternity. The best face on the Indian ramp in recent years, Rampal threw away a successful modeling career in 2001 to face the camera in the hopes that success would be his in filmdom too.
Fourteen releases later, and with not a single hit to his name, the prospects don't seem too bright. He hopes that Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai, his current release, should turn the tide.
Excerpts from an interview.
Entertainment Plus: Tell us more about Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai.
Arjun Rampal: Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai [HTPH] is a romantic film with an interesting storyline. It's picturised well and has some twists that differentiate it from typical Bollywood romance movies.
The cinematography is said to be grand.
Yes, there are some great visuals and grand sets that were erected for the film. Besides, the film was shot in Rajasthan and Switzerland.
The juxtaposition of the rustic charm of Rajasthan with the scenic locales in Switzerland makes for interesting viewing.
Tell me about your character.
I play Rohit, a simple man who loves his girlfriend Durga (Amisha Patel). She is blind and he is her pillar of strength as he promises her that he will bring her out of her world and that she will be able to see someday. See she does, but they have to part ways due to unavoidable circumstances.
What got you to sign the film?
My character's simplicity appealed to me.
How was it working with Patel and Bobby Deol?
Amisha is a friend and was my co-star in Vaada. Deol is an old friend. Our bonding helped us perform better while shooting.
Your look in the film is being talked about.
Yes, my outfits have been designed by Rocky S, who has worked towards giving me an identity of my own - even when I'm wearing a kurta and jeans.
Tell us something about the music of HTPH.
Anand Raj Anand has composed some good tunes. Tere Ishq Main Paagal Ho Gaya and Deewana Tera Re are hummable numbers.
