HANNAH MONTANA BEHIND THE SPOTLIGHT
Cast: Miley Cyrus, Billy Ray Cyrus, Emily Osment
Miley Stewart (Miley Cyrus) maintains a dual identity: an ordinary student at Seaview Middle School by day, she's a crowd-pulling crooner when the sun sets. Nothing wrong with having a night job: one has got to make the most of one's talents.
But where others would want to gloat about it and act like Britney Spears, Miley wants to keep it a secret. She's a sensible kid who knows that were her classmates to know that she's the one-and-only Hannah Montana, she will not enjoy the fruits of a normal childhood.
Hence her dad (Billy Ray Cyrus) and brother are the only ones in the know. She is a brunette and wears a blonde wig for her shows, and that's how she somehow manages to hide her real identity.
The four episodes in this DVD reveal how the pop star manages to keep her two worlds apart. In episode one, students in her class are asked to raise funds for the United People's Relief Fund. Miley's team has to beat the two frontrunners, Amber and Ashley who tap their rich fathers' wallets to win the approbation they crave. The outcome is happy but Miley ends up telling her friend Lilly (Osment) that she is Hannah.
Likewise, in episode 3, she's forced to shatter the fantasies of another friend, Oliver Oken, by revealing the truth.
This is good, clean Disney fun for 'tweens and teens. Special features include Miley Cyrus' original audition footage.
Rating: PG.
JUMP IN
Cast: Corbin Bleu, Keke Palmer, David Reivers
Acknowledged as one of the best Disney Channel Original Movies, Jump In features Isadore 'Izzy' Daniels (Bleu from High School Musical), a likeable lad who takes to the boxing ring to please his father (Reivers). He works hard at the local gym and everyone is sure that he will be the next big champ.
But before he can make it to the Golden Gloves competition, he has to tackle the school bully Rodney (Patrick Johnson, Jr.) in an exhibition match. This isn't so difficult, but the bully gets more aggressive after his defeat and challenges him to have a rematch.
Meanwhile, Mary Thomas (Palmer) catches his eye. She's a double dutch jumper and leads a team called the Joy Jumpers. It also happens that she lives in the same block as he does. This makes it easy for playful teasing and taunting.
Izzy gets to know about double dutch when he is forced to accompany his sister to a contest in which Mary and her team are participating. Izzy is impressed, and as the narrator says, "it was as if someone had opened a door to a whole new world."
It's a sad moment for the Joy Jumpers as the judges dismiss their performance and one of the team members leaves them to join another group.
Izzy who has picked up a few moves is requested to stand in as a member till a replacement is found.
Jump in is packed with energy and features amazing moves. Among the featurettes are Learning the Moves and Music and More.

WELCOME HOME ROSCOE JENKINS
Cast: Martin Lawrence, Cedric the Entertainer, Mo'nique, Mike Epps
Dr. R.J. Stevens (Lawrence) has succeeded in keeping away from his small hometown Dry Springs for nine years. He has a popular talk show, owns a big mansion in the city and is now getting international exposure. Besides, he's just engaged to Bianca Kittles (Joy Bryant), a beautiful reality show winner.
Marring his happiness is a call from home reminding him of the 50th wedding anniversary of his parents. He does not want to go back to the place where everyone did everything better than him.
But the entire clan will be there and go he must, accompanied by Bianca and Jamaal, his young son from a previous marriage.
Now the fun begins. RJ and Bianca (whose name is mispronounced many times) are teased, taunted and rubbished by kith and kin at every opportune moment. RJ is even beaten up by his brother and sister.
Old issues come to the fore, especially his cousin Clyde's (Cedric the Entertainer), role in wrecking RJ's life. And now RJ sees a chance to get even.
This is a great comedy. There are lots of gags and wildly entertaining moments. But I believe the rating should have been R.
