Mamma Mia!
Cast: Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgard, Amanda Seyfried
Mamma Mia! The Movie ranks 49 on the all-time worldwide box office list. The audiences loved the movie and they are going to love the DVD even more. Britain's Daily Mirror says it's "This year's must have DVD". True. Apart from the movie, it contains loads of interesting featurettes making the disc a collectors' item.
Based on the stage musical that's been seen by more than 32 million people worldwide, Mamma Mia! is the story of bride-to-be Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) who lives with her mother Donna (Meryl Streep) on a beautiful Greek island.
Sophie would like to have her father at her wedding but she doesn't know who he is. Skimming through her mother's old diaries, she finds three names Sam (Pierce Brosnan), Bill (Stellan Skarsgard) and Harry (Colin Firth). The best thing to do she reckons is to invite all three. Meanwhile, Donna calls over her old buddies Rosie (Julie Walters) and Tanya (Christine Baranski).
Streep was thrilled to be in the movie. Brosnan too had a great time. "I should have done musicals earlier," he says.
But he was troubled by ABBA's Benny Andersson diktat that the actors had to do their own singing.
"I don't think I've been so nervous," says Brosnan. But when he found that Skarsgard and Firth were equally terrified, he felt better.
As it turned out, Andersson and his pal Bjorn Ulvaeus were pleased with the outcome.
You'll love this feel-good movie, and if you are an ABBA fan, you'll be playing it again and again, especially the sing-along section.

Wall.E
Voices: Ben Burtt, Elissa Knight, Jeff Garlin, Fred Willard
Seven hundred years into the future, Earth is a trash heap. As the movie opens, we see mellow sunshine filtering through the hazy atmosphere, making the planet look deceptively peaceful and beautiful. But it is a barren, abandoned wasteland.
We see a robot, WALL.E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter - Earth Class), gathering metal and compacting it. The only living thing around is a cockroach that WALL.E has taken as a pet.
It appears that human voraciousness, fuelled by corporate greed, has proved to be the undoing of the world. Unable to bear the exploitation and abuse any longer, Mother Earth has decided to take a break.
Taking advantage of this situation, Buy n Large, a corporation, sells the surviving humans a holiday in space till Earth can be recolonised.
One day the mothership, Axiom, sends EVE (Extra-terrestrial Vegetation Evaluator) to Earth on a reconnaissance mission. The cute robot comes across the industrious WALL.E and the two fall in love. Soon WALL.E finds himself being dragged to Axiom where humans are bloated dummies helplessly bound to their hoverchairs. Will they ever go home?
Buy this 2-disc set and embark on a fun journey across the universe. Or you could play Santa and gift it to a friend.
