The second film of the franchise will hit the screens on November 21
Dubai: Calling all Wicked fans, we finally have the trailer for the second part of the movie!
Early this morning, the trailer for Wicked: For Good, the second of the two-film adaptation of the Broadway musical was released by Universal Pictures. The trailer first premiered at a one-night-only screening event of the first film, Wicked in theatres, following which Universal Pictures decided to drop the trailer on YouTube itself, to avoid leaks.
The teaser trailer had everything – rage, wedding gowns, flying monkeys, stunning vocals and the arrival of Dorothy.
Directed by Jon M. Chu, the film stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, Jonathan Bailey as Prince Fiyero, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Ethan Slater as Boq Woodsman, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, and Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard of Oz himself.
“This is between us, the Wizard and I,” Elphaba says as she prepares to take him down in the trailer. The film will centre on the consequences the two friends face after the decisions they made in the first film.
The trailer also gives us a glimpse of Dorothy and the yellow brick broad, as Grande’s Galinda warns Erivo’s Elphaba, “Elphaba, they’re coming for you.”
A snippet of the strong bond and friendship between the two witches was also shown in the trailer when Elphaba says, “You’re the only friend I’ve ever had,” to which Galinda replies, “And I’ve had so many friends.”
The first film, which was a massive hit and earned more than $729 million globally, was also nominated under 10 categories at the Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actress for Erivo and Best Supporting Actress for Grande. However, the film won only two awards that night for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.
The film, the conclusion of the Wicked film franchise, is set to hit the screens on November 21.
