The Daily Show correspondent Hasan Minhaj will be the first Indian American host of a weekly comedy talk show, Netflix announced.

Minhaj will explore the cultural and political landscape on the show, which received an order for 32 episodes and is set to premiere later this year.

“Each week, Minhaj will bring his unique comedic voice and storytelling skill to investigate the larger trends shaping our fragmented world,” the streaming service said in a statement.

Minhaj has experience with political humour, aiming several zingers at the 2017 White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The event is a daunting task for any comedian, and especially one who was lesser known than former hosts like Seth Meyers and Stephen Colbert.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Netflix family as the country braces for another election season,” Minhaj said in a statement.

He also worked with Netflix for his first comedy special, Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King, which premiered in May. Minhaj will remain a correspondent with The Daily Show, which he joined in 2014, through July.

“He’s a phenomenal writer with a distinct point of view,” said Bela Bajaria, vice president of content for Netflix. “He is a brilliant performer, who is hilarious both on stage and off, and more importantly he isn’t afraid to share his thoughtful voice and unique perspective.”

Minhaj isn’t stopping there. Next year, Comedy Central will premiere a one-hour comedy sketch show, which Minhaj is executive producing and hosting with his comedy quartet, Goatface. And this summer, he will appear in The Spy Who Dumped Me, a Lionsgate action comedy starring Mila Kunis.
