Han So-hee reflects on 'responsible' honesty after Ryu Jun-yeol and Hyeri split backlash: 'That's who I am'

Apart from experimenting with different roles, South Korean actress Han So-hee has established a reputation for also being clear-cut and honest with her opinions, which has often landed her in the spotlight. In a recent interview with Harper Bazaar, the actress talked about how she aims to be more responsible with honesty.

So-hee, who last year came under scrutiny for seemingly sending jabs to Hyeri regarding  Ryu Jun-yeol, shared her thoughts on emphasising her commitment to authenticity. “I think I’m just a very honest person. No matter how much I think about it, that’s who I am. But with honesty comes responsibility for the problems that result from that honesty. There are fans, friends, and people listening to what I say, so I’m trying to learn how to be honest in a way that is also responsible.” These statements led fans to believe that she was also referring to the fiasco, that took place last year.

In 2024, news broke that So-hee was dating Ryu Jun-yeol, who had recently ended his long-term relationship with Hyeri. This led to speculation and backlash, with some people questioning the timing of Ryu Jun-yeol and Hyeri’s breakup.  Shortly after the dating news spread, Hyeri made a cryptic post on her Instagram Story that simply said  ‘That’s fun'. Given the context, many interpreted this as her reaction to So-hee and Ryu Jun-yeol's relationship, fueling public discussion and speculation.

So-hee later addressed the situation in a lengthy blog post, seemingly responding to Hyeri’s cryptic message. She defended herself against claims of wrongdoing, denied any overlap between Ryu Jun-yeol's previous relationship and her involvement, and stated that she was unfairly targeted by the public.  The situation escalated with online debates, with fans taking sides. Eventually, Han So-hee announced that she and Ryu Jun-yeol were no longer together, suggesting that the scrutiny played a role in their split.
