Singer Gary Valenciano returns to Dubai to headline another concert at the Aviation Club Tennis Stadium on Friday. Valenciano, "Mr Pure Energy" to his fans, has performed in Dubai at least eight times since 1985, underlining his enthusiasm to share his talents with his fans in the emirate.
"It is one of the best cities to perform in, as there are so many countrymen of ours in the audience and the Dubai people are fun to be with," says Valenciano, who assures fans that they will thoroughly enjoy the concert. "Fun and relevance is what I promise."
Valenciano will be joined by his sons Gabriel and Paolo.
Despite his busy schedule, Valenciano found time for a Q&A with tabloid! ahead of his concert in Dubai.
Three words to describe yourself.
Passionate. Precise. Perfectionist.
First thing you think of when you wake up?
Check my cell phone. Pray.
Do you have bad habits?
Many! My wife says I am messy.
How about good habits?
I'm very disciplined, I think, in my craft.
Would you be interested in doing a movie in Dubai ?
If the script and offer is right, yes why not? I sang a theme song for the movie Dubai with Aga Muhlach and John Llloyd Cruz called Ikaw Lamang.
Can you talk about upcoming projects?
We decided to put together with ABS-CBN, Star Cinema and Star Records the best movie and soap opera theme songs I recorded for them. Cover songs like And I Love Her So and One Hello, and well-loved OPM hits like Tayong Dalawa by Rey Valera and Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin by Aaron Paul. Of course, the song I co-wrote with my wife, Angeli, Sana Maulit Muli which was used in a movie I made with Vilma Santos as well as a movie of Lea Salonga and Aga Muhlach, and the first soap opera of Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson. She wrote the lyrics and I composed the music.
I also did the anthem for 100 Years of Happiness for Coca-Cola and will perform in a concert with Sarah Geronimo on March 23 at the Mall of Asia.
I will be performing at the Music Museum in the Philippines on April 12, 13, 19 20, 26, 27 and May 9 and 10 in a show titled Gary V: On Higher Ground, a fundraiser for the Shining Light Foundation and Unicef (as I am their Ambassador for 14 years now).
I am doing a movie called I Doo Bidoo Bidoo with Zsazsa Padilla, Ogie Alcasid, Eugene Domingo and Sam Concepcion. I also will be in the USA in June, and judging for X Factor in Manila as well as hosting and performing in ASAP 2012, our Sunday musical variety show.
What advice can you give to those who want to follow in your footsteps?
First always pray, then work hard to do your best, never resorting to mediocrity... always have a vision and be passionate about being the best you can be. When I entered showbiz, our house just got burned down so I had no clothes and assets. Have faith and your dreams can come true!
