Did your office announce a day off for Rajinikanth’s Coolie?

If so, they weren’t the only ones. Uno Aqua Care Madurai declared a holiday on release day to avoid a flood of leave requests, applying it across all branches including Chennai, Bengaluru, Trichy, Tirunelveli, Chengalpattu, and Arapalayam. “We, DigiNad are happy to announce the holiday on the release of Coolie,” the CEO announced on LinkedIn.

The Coolie holiday spirit might have reached Dubai as well. San Global tweeted, “Coolie Festival.. Office declaring holiday in three of their branches including Dubai.”

In Chennai, one employee’s Coolie plans turned into a full-blown office outing. She had simply asked her boss for leave to watch the film and not only did he approve it instantly, but the entire team ended up joining her. On LinkedIn, she wrote, “I told my boss I needed leave on the 14th to watch Coolie. He approved it almost immediately. And I thought the story ended there. But nope. 1 hour later, a poll pops up in our WhatsApp group asking: ‘Coolie with the team?’ And just like that… we’re all going to the movie together.”

In Singapore, Farmer Constructions PTE LTD issued a circular declaring a paid holiday for all its Tamil workers, along with a free ticket to Coolie and Singaporean $30 for expenses. Meanwhile, SB Mart PTE LTD announced its convenience store would remain closed from 7:30 to 11 AM on August 14 in honour of the film’s release.
