Also starring Rashmika Mandanna & Akshaye Khanna, this is Kaushal's first hit of the year
Dubai: Bollywood actor Vicky Kaushal's historical epic Chhaava is enjoying a steady run at the box office in India and has now crossed the coveted Rs2 billion mark within just six days of release.
According to a report on NDTV Profits, the film saw a significant surge in collections on February 19, thanks to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti holiday, adding over Rs300 million in a single day.
Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava features Vicky in a career-defining role as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, with Akshaye Khanna earning praise for his performance as Aurangzeb.
The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Ashutosh Rana, Diana Penty, and Divya Dutta.
Despite its Monday slowdown, Chhaava reportedly remains one of the year’s most successful Hindi films.
With strong word-of-mouth, its performance in the UAE and other international markets will be crucial in determining its long-term box office run.
In an interview with Gulf News ahead of the movie's release, Vicky described his role as his career's most toughest.
"This has been the most physically demanding and challenging role for me because I’ve never done anything like this before. It’s my first historical period film, which required a complete physical transformation—putting on about 25 kilos of muscle mass, sword fighting, action training, growing a beard, and growing my hair. All of this takes time, and it took about six to seven months of preparation to achieve," said Vicky in that interview.
