Vicky Kaushal's warrior epic chronicles the valiant life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj
Vicky Kaushal’s warrior epic Chhaava, out in the UAE cinemas now, continues its remarkable box office run around the world, crossing Rs5.3 billion on Day 26 (fourth Tuesday). According to the UAE box office admission reports, the film has clocked 90,685 foot fall since its release.
The historical action drama, which chronicles the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has held steady even in its fourth week, proving to be one of the most significant Bollywood releases of the year. According to reports emerging from Mumbai, this puts Chhaava on the brink of surpassing Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which had a lifetime box office collection of Rs5.43 billion.
Despite facing a dip due to the India vs. New Zealand ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final, the film saw a significant surge over the fourth weekend, breaking into the Rs4 billion club and maintaining momentum.
Ahead of the film's release, Bollywood actor Vicky Kaushal told Gulf News that he didn’t just perform in Chhaava—he immersed himself completely into the role of the legendary Maratha king.
“Some dishes are best slow-cooked,” he quipped, reflecting on the six to seven months he dedicated to physically and mentally preparing for the role.
Kaushal’s preparation wasn’t just limited to building 25 kilos of muscle or learning sword fighting—he went through a complete transformation, growing his hair and beard and deeply studying Sambhaji Maharaj’s life and legacy.
“This has been the most physically demanding and challenging role for me because I’ve never done anything like this before. It’s my first historical period film, which required a complete physical transformation—putting on muscle mass, sword fighting, action training, growing a beard, and growing my hair. It took about six to seven months of preparation.”
Playing Sambhaji Maharaj wasn’t just another role for Kaushal—it was an honor, he added. He hoped the film educated audiences about Indian history while delivering an engaging cinematic experience.
“They will be educated. They will be entertained. Because the idea, the goal of making this film, is to make the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj reach every household—not just in the country, but across the globe. His life and his sacrifice need to be celebrated, talked about, and known.”
Chhaava’s historic success and Telugu splash:
Given Chhaava’s overwhelming success in Hindi, the film has now been dubbed in Telugu, further extending its reach.
