Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj’s son Aasmaan Bhardwaj’s short film, The Thief, is among the 38 shorts to be screened at the 10th NFDC Film Bazaar in Goa.

An adaptation of Ruskin Bond’s short story The Thief, it will be screened as part of the Viewing Room at the Film Bazaar, to be held from November 20-24.

“I had no idea that my father had submitted the film to the Viewing Room of the Film Bazaar, so I’m just glad about that, and I hope more people can watch the film,” said Aasmaan, who is currently pursuing a screenwriting course at the School of Visual Arts in New York.

Produced by Aasmaan’s parents, Vishal and singer Rekha Bhardwaj, the short film features Chandan Roy Sanyal, Rahul Kumar and Aditi Sharma.

This is the third short directed by Aasmaan, after The Identities (2013) and Murder on the Deccan Express (2015).

This year 202 films will be screened in the Viewing Room, which includes 38 shorts and 164 feature length films (131 fiction features and 33 documentaries).

The films submitted to the Viewing Room are either just completed or still in progress, aiming to launch in 2017.

The Viewing Room allows access only to buyers, financiers, world sales agents and festival programmers.

Film Bazaar is a platform created to encourage collaboration between the international and South Asian film fraternities. The market aims at facilitating the sales of world cinema in the region.
