Shah Rukh Khan is set to receive a Rs 90 million refund from the Maharashtra government after overpaying to convert the lease of his Mumbai bungalow, Mannat, to full ownership, according to a PTI report.

In March 2019, Khan and his wife, Gauri Khan, converted the lease of their Bandra heritage property to "class 1 complete ownership" and paid a premium to the government.

This premium, calculated based on the property’s market value and ready reckoner price, was reportedly upwards of Rs 250 million, though officials did not immediately confirm the exact figure.

The policy at the time stipulated a payment of 25 per cent of the ready reckoner price, amounting to approximately Rs 275 million.

A subsequent review revealed a tabulation error in the premium calculation, resulting in an overpayment. Upon this discovery, the Khans filed a refund application with the revenue authority, which was sanctioned earlier this week.

Mannat, a sea-facing luxurious bungalow spanning 2,446 square meters, is registered in the names of Gauri and Shah Rukh Khan. Before the property’s transfer, the state, as the original titleholder, levied its share of “unearned income,” also calculated based on market value and ready reckoner price.

Khan later constructed a multi-storey annex behind the bungalow, which now serves as their primary residence.
