Shah Rukh Khan’s heist comedy Happy New Year (HNY) will premiere in Dubai on October 22, the actor revealed at the first trailer launch on Thursday. 40 per cent of his forthcoming home production was filmed in Dubai. Speaking on the eve of India’s Independence Day on Thursday, saying the film, about the “biggest heist”, is dedicated to inspiring “losers”.

“The film will host its grand premiere in Dubai on October 22,” said Khan. “What better way to host the screening where nearly 40 per cent of the movie has been shot. Dubai has proved to be a wonderful host to us. It’s like my second home, and it would be great to return to the scene of the crime to bring this journey to its conclusion.”

The film, directed by Farah Khan and produced by SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment, is centred around six “losers” who set out to change their destiny in what looks like Bollywood’s version of Ocean’s 11.

Much of the film was shot at Atlantis The Palm, and the opening shots of the trailer show the spectacular fireworks over the Palm that took place on New Year’s Eve 2013.

“The film is not about one actor, it is an ensemble film. It is about hope, belief and goodness. It is dedicated to losers,” Khan told the media at the trailer launch.

The much-awaited three-minute trailer gives a sneak peek into the Bollywood masala film, and Khan said it was an apt day to launch it because the film has a patriotic streak with the song Indiawale.

The ensemble cast that supports Khan in the film include Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani and Vivaan Shah, as well as Jackie Shroff, who plays the bad guy.

Touted as Bollywood’s big Diwali release this year, the film promises to make the festive season “happier” for fans of Hindi movies, and Khan, who will be seen on the big screen after a gap of over a year.
