Designer Anita Dongre on Friday showcased her ‘India modern’ fashion line at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014 in Mumbai.

Her latest collection brings out the charm of Rajasthan. The couturier’s line was regal, with bridal lehengas (long skirts) reinterpreted with modern styles, subtle detailing and layering, juxtaposed with intricate gota patti, dori (types of embroidery) and hand embroidery.

Dongre’s collections combined lehengas with crop tops, structured jackets with embroidered pants and couture gowns while her menswear included raw silk kurtas (collarless shirts), textured long jackets, sherwanis (knee-length coats), dhotis (sarongs worn by men) and ghera salwars (loose, pleated trousers) in colours suited for the modern man.

The artistic palette shuttles between soft neutrals such as cream and flesh to vibrant jewel tones of ruby reds, peacock blues and pinks, adding a touch of old world luxury.

The models’ catwalk was accompanied by a live performance by sitar maestro Niladri Kumar.

Lakme Fashion Week will continue until August 24.
