‘Dishoom’ in the UAE: John Abraham recovering well

It’s been a crazy, adrenalin-fuelled few weeks for the crew of Dishoom in Abu Dhabi with its lead actors John Abraham and Varun Dhawan executing deadly stunts, but they are all set to wind up by the first week of March, confirmed the Bollywood film producer Sajid Nadiadwala to tabloid!. The crew of Dishoom arrived in Abu Dhabi during the last week of January to film their action sequences.

“I have witnessed outstanding coordination in the past few weeks. There was a scene where we needed choppers with the actors hanging from it. It wasn’t an easy action scene to film, but it went off smoothly because we got tremendous support locally. We will finish by March 1 or 2nd,” said Nadiadwala in an interview over the phone on Wednesday morning. Directed by Rohit Dhawan, Dishoom experienced some scheduling difficulties when its main player, Abraham, injured himself during another film shoot.

“But John has recovered well and he was able to pull off all the action scenes. I am very happy,” said Nadiadwala, who has previously produced blockbusters such as the Salman Khan-starring Kick. There was more drama when the stuntman from Dishoom, Allan Amin, got injured during its filming last week. But all’s well, says its producer. The accident, however, prompted Dhawan to post a picture of himself with Amin, who had just finished his hospital run, captioning it: “Standing with the champion action director of #dishoom. Last night when a stunt went bad he got 9 stitches was rushed to the hospital. But after some time he was right back to make sure I was safe. These are the people and the workhorses of our great industry that inspire me. Thank you #allanamin.”

But things are looking up for the Dishoom crew now. So how did Nadiadwala manage to rope in Akshay Kumar for a cameo?

“It’s a friendly appearance by Akshay. We both have known each other for the last 35 years since we went to the same school — Don Bosco. We are friends first and it’s great that he will be in my film, too,” said Nadiadwala.

But it’s not all work and no play for the actors of Dishoom. Dhawan has working hard at the gym for his role in Dishoom and posting shirtless pictures flaunting his ripped torso — much to the delight of his fans — on his social media accounts with precision. Actress Jacqueline Fernandez, who grew up in Bahrain, took the opportunity to acquaint herself with Dubai. During her day off from filming for Dishoom, she chose to go skydiving.

“I never thought I could do this but I did it!,” posted Fernadez.

Fakhri, the actress who worked with Dhawan in Main Tera Hero, also documented her time with the boys in the gym.

Dishoom is expected to release on April 14 in the UAE.
