Rapper Badshah has collaborated with Dr Zeus and Jasmine Sandlas for a new song with an important message.

Pinjra [which means cage], in a subtle way, points towards honour killings that are quite prevalent in mainly the northern part of India,” Badshah said.

The collaboration is part of MTV Spoken Word, a monthly feature on MTV. It features artists composing a soundtrack based on a thought. One video, which runs for the whole month, is released, featuring the message that it is woven around.

“My father is from Haryana and my mother is from Punjab…so I am aware of the situation [of honour killings]. Also, the song is beautifully written by Jasmine and I couldn’t help but be in it and do my part,” Badshah said.

This is the first time that Sandlas and the rapper have shared a platform. The rapper says she has a “unique texture” to her voice.

However, this is not the first time that Badshah has worked with MTV Spoken Word. He had already done a song titled Bandook.

“It has been very special for me as it has allowed me to do something besides the commercial songs that I do. Also, the team is really amazing... I have a special bond with them as they always allow me to be a part of something different,” Badshah said.
