The animated film Bilal — produced in Dubai over three years on a Dh110 million budget — will premiere at Cannes Film Festival’s Animation Day on May 18.

The visually ambitious film, also known as Bilal: A New Brand of Hero, tells the story of Bilal Ibn Rabah, one of the Prophet Mohammad’s (PBUH) companions, before he became the first muezzin (a person who calls to prayer). The film had its regional premiere in the UAE in December, as part of Dubai International Film Festival, and is set for a September release in the UAE.
