Barbie Hsu, Taiwanese actress and 'Meteor Garden' star dies at 48
'Meteor Garden' was dubbed in multiple languages, making Hsu a star in the Philippines
Barbie Hsu, the Taiwanese actress best known for her role as Shancai in the hit series 'Meteor Garden', has passed away at the age of 48.
According to an article published by Taiwan Focus, Hsu died of pneumonia after contracting influenza during the Lunar New Year holiday.
Her death was confirmed on Monday, February 3, by her sister, Dee Hsu, through her agent.
Hsu reportedly developed "influenza-induced pneumonia" while on a family trip to Japan.
"Our whole family came to Japan for a trip, and my dearest and most kindhearted sister, Barbie Hsu, succumbed to influenza-induced pneumonia and, unfortunately, left us," Dee Hsu said through her agent.
Meteor Garden was dubbed in several languages and propelled Hsu to stardom in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand.
