Aamir Khan tones up with an eight-pack for his latest action-packed film Ghajini. Geeta Nihalani reviews it.

All the promos, reviews and billboards display a lean and perfectly sculpted Aamir Khan returning to the big screen looking his very best in his latest venture Ghajini. The sculpted body, the buzz cut, the scars running across his body caught the eye of the public long before the release of the movie.

So what is Ghajini all about?

Although not a typical potboiler, Ghajini has the basic romance and revenge elements common among Bollywood films. The movie is a remake of the original Tamil version by the same name and seems to be inspired by Hollywood movie, Memento, in which the main character suffers from short-term memory loss.

Aamir plays the role of Sanjay Singhania who is set to find Ghajini, the man who killed his love, Kalpana (newcomer Asin). To deal with his memory loss, Singhania tattoos his body with clues and takes photographs of places and people.

His main purpose in life is revenge, and he will do anything and everything to find Ghajini, whether it involves breaking bones, smashing jaws or strangling necks. In this, he has the support of Sunita (Jiah Khan), a medical student, who helps him in his mission albeit after an initial period of doubt.

A definite hit

The story spares no blood and gore; it is very aggressive and violent. For those of you who cannot take all this, please spare yourself the brutality as the film takes violence and aggression to a whole different level.

Director A.R. Murugadoss has done a fantastic job in depicting the story on celluloid and obviously veteran actor Aamir Khan has performed superbly.

Newcomer Asin performs fabulously in her Bollywood debut. A.R. Rahman has incorporated some beautiful music which definitely adds to the film's appeal.

The verdict

Ghajini is not the typical sing-a-song, dance and-fall-in-love type of movie, and is most definitely worth a watch. The plot is unique and will definitely keep you engaged in spite of the film being more than three hours long.

For all you die-hard Aamir Khan fans out there, this film is a definite must-watch as you will see your favourite hero in his best avatar and best physique.
