Sharjah: Sharjah opened its first water park on March 13 after days of trial runs that began this month.
“We did a soft launch on March 2 to test our preparedness and the level of crowd interest. We have had a great response and are prepared for a huge turnout this weekend,” a staff at the Al Montazah Park told XPRESS this week.
The 126,000 square metre amusement park, known previously as Al Jazeera Park, has three main sections: a leisure park, green park and the emirate’s first-of-its-kind water park replete with eight pulsating rides. Four of them are body slides while the rest are tube slides, all from as high as 15 metres.
“Sliding down from such great heights is really exciting,” gushed Mohammad Hammad, 14, one of the early birds to the park.
Latest destination
Developed by Sharjah Invest-ment and Development Authority (Shurooq) at a cost of Dh100 million on the Sharjah Flag Island, Al Montazah Park is being billed as the emirate’s latest destination for a family day out.
“It’s the perfect place to come to with friends and family. All these years we had to go to places like Yas Water World in Abu Dhabi or Aquaventure or Wild Wadi in Dubai, but now we can have similar fun in our very own Sharjah,” said Hammad’s school friend, Rashid Abdullah, 13.
The green park section meanwhile includes picnic areas and a venue dedicated to host events as well as a host of restaurants, cafes, a lake for boating and a mosque.
The third part, called leisure park, still being readied, will entertain video game lovers with a variety of electronic games. There will also be a kart racing track and two mini football pitches. A toy train for the kids will criss-cross the parks.
