His racing car collided with another competitor from behind before flipping multiple times
Dubai: South Indian actor and professional race car driver Ajith Kumar recently experienced his second major crash in just a month during his stint in the Porsche Sprint Challenge in Spain.
According to reports, the actor who owns his own car racing team met with a near-fatal accident in Valencia on the tracks when his car collided with another competitor from behind before flipping multiple times and eventually coming to rest on the gravel.
Although the incident has understandably sparked concern among his fans for the safety of the 54-year-old star, all indications are that he emerged unscathed.
Ajith’s manager, Suresh Chandra, shared footage of the accident on Twitter along with an explanation. He noted that while Round 5 in Valencia saw Ajith finish in a respectable 14th place—garnering widespread appreciation—the following round was marred by two separate collisions.
“The video clearly shows that he was not at fault. Even after the first crash, he got back into the pits and was performing well. The second crash caused his car to topple twice, yet his perseverance shone through as he continued the race. Thanks for all the prayers and wishes—AK is all right,” the caption read.
The incident quickly ignited various reactions on social media. One user commented, “He needs more practice before participating in a race! On top of money and passion, he needs practice too,” while others questioned the frequency of such mishaps, stressing that no other professional racer seems to encounter these kinds of issues so often. Amid the concerns, many fans expressed relief upon learning that Ajith was safe.
A month ago, right after his accident in Dubai, Ajith in an interview with Gulf News opened up about his unique perspective on success and the risks inherent in his dual careers.
“Success is like a wild horse. If you can’t tame it, it will throw you off,” he remarked, succinctly capturing his approach to both racing and acting.
During our conversation, Ajith spoke passionately about his love for motorsports and the broader realm of sports.
“I love sports—anything that involves good competition or travel. These experiences recharge me and keep me motivated,” he explained. He also discussed how he encourages his children to participate in sports, emphasising that the lessons learned from both victories and losses are invaluable.
“I tell my children that while formal education is important, the most important lessons often come from traveling and engaging in sports,” he added, highlighting how these experiences foster empathy and broaden one’s perspective.
On the track, Ajith detailed the razor-sharp focus required for racing.
“Once you’re inside the car, you need to concentrate on the braking lines and the track. There are no retakes in racing—one moment of distraction can be disastrous,” he said.
Addressing the concerns of his loved ones regarding the inherent risks of racing, Ajith emphasised that professional racing occurs within a strictly controlled environment.
