Ajith's returning to the big screens today with an action film, also starring Trisha
Dubai: “Success is like a wild horse. If you can’t tame it, it will throw you off,” said Tamil icon Ajith Kumar in a rare interview with Gulf News last month. He should know.
The buzz surrounding the release of his much-anticipated action thriller, Vidaamuyarchi, has been nothing short of extraordinary as his beloved fans line up to watch the film today. Ahead of its release in the UAE today, the film has been trending across social media platforms, with hashtags like #VidaaMuyarchiStorm and #AjithKumar creating waves.
From the thrilling action sequences and Ajith-Trisha reunion to Anirudh’s electrifying soundtrack, every aspect of the film has generated massive buzz. Adding to the excitement, the first-ever Tamil film shot extensively in Azerbaijan promises a visually stunning experience. But before you head to the cinemas, here's what you should know about the movie that's likely to be a box-office juggernaut.
Returning to the Big Screen After Two Years
With Vidaamuyarchi, Ajith returns to cinema after a two-year gap since Thunivu (2023). The actor, according to reports, dedicated 121 days to film this actioner. But stepping away from the limelight never fazes him. Ajith, in an interview with this journalist, spoke about how he believes in living in the moment rather than chasing validation.
“Live for the moment. Don’t dwell on the past or worry excessively about the future. Work hard, stay healthy—both mentally and physically—and be kind to others,” he advises.
A Story of Persistence and High-Stakes Action
Directed by Magizh Thirumeni, Vidaamuyarchi is a Tamil adaptation of the 1997 Hollywood thriller Breakdown. The film, which unfolds over a single action-packed day, is set to be a gripping survival thriller.
Much like racing, where split-second decisions can determine victory or disaster, Ajith sees a similarity in acting. “Unlike films where you can retake a shot or tennis where you get a second serve, in racing, there are no retakes. One moment of distraction can maim or kill you. You need to be on it all the time,” he explains.
Ajith is known for his dedication to performing his own stunts, and Vidaamuyarchi is no exception. Behind-the-scenes footage revealed the actor executing high-speed chases and intricate action sequences. “Consistency is key, especially in racing. It’s important to have the right people around you—a coach, a trainer, and even spiritual guidance,” he adds.
Trisha and Ajith’s re-union:
Another major highlight of Vidaamuyarchi is Trisha Krishnan reuniting with Ajith on screen after nearly a decade. The duo, last seen together in Yennai Arindhaal (2015), has a history of delivering memorable performances.
Ajith values teamwork, whether in sports or cinema. “Success requires constant effort and support from your family and loved ones. I couldn’t do what I do without the support of my wife, Shalini, my children, and my siblings,” he says.
Arjun Sarja as the antagonist:
The film also sees Arjun Sarja playing the antagonist, Rakshith, marking a reunion between the two actors after their blockbuster Mankatha (2011).
Music that strikes a chord:
With Anirudh Ravichander composing the soundtrack, Vidaamuyarchi is already making waves with its pulsating background score. This marks Anirudh’s third collaboration with Ajith after Vedalam and Vivegam, both of which delivered chart-topping hits.
Filming in foreign locales:
Vidaamuyarchi was extensively shot in Azerbaijan.
Ajith, who thrives in challenging terrains both on and off-screen, is no stranger to high-stakes environments. However, he emphasizes calculated risks.
“Racing, unlike reckless driving on roads, is done in a controlled environment. On the roads, irresponsible behavior can cost lives,” he warns, recalling a tragic accident involving a close friend in Pune.
Balancing Cinema, Racing, and Life
For Ajith, racing and acting are both about discipline, mental agility, and perseverance. But beyond his professional life, he wants his fans to focus on their own journeys rather than idolising him. “I tell my fans that life is short, and our great-grandchildren won’t remember our names. So, why spread hatred? Be happy for others. Focus on your life and contribute to making the world a better place,” he says.
With Vidaamuyarchi promising an exhilarating cinematic experience and Ajith continuing to push his limits on and off the screen, the superstar’s philosophy remains clear: Success and failure are both imposters, and true strength lies in how you handle them.
