After multiple delays due to geopolitics, Bollywood cross cultural romance gets a new date
Dubai: After months anticipation and delays, Abir Gulaal, the cross-border romance starring Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor, has finally secured a new worldwide release date. The film, directed by Aarti S Bagdi, will hit more than 1,000 screens across 75 countries starting September 12, 2025.
The release, which was initially scheduled for August 29 release, comes after the project was stalled amid India-Pakistan tensions, preventing its theatrical rollout in India. As a result, the film will now premiere globally—everywhere except India.
The announcement was accompanied by a statement from the makers: “We asked you to make space for love—and you did. The response has been overwhelming. Your love has created more demand than we could have imagined. And so, we’re opening our arms wider.”
Touted as a feel-good yet fiery romance, Abir Gulaal chronicles unexpected connections, second chances, and the challenges of making space for love in a complicated world.
The film’s music is composed by Amit Trivedi with lyrics by Kumaar, adding to its strong creative lineup.
Fawad Khan, a household name in Pakistan and a widely adored star in India, returns to the big screen alongside Vaani Kapoor in a pairing that has already generated significant buzz. Early teasers and promotional material have sparked excitement across South Asia and diaspora audiences worldwide.
The global release strategy underscores both the rising appetite for South Asian cinema abroad and the constraints imposed by ongoing geopolitical tensions. Still, the producers are confident that the film’s universal themes will resonate with audiences regardless of borders.
With hashtags like #MakeSpaceForLove driving engagement online, Abir Gulaal is positioning itself not just as a romance on screen but also as a cultural moment—one that insists love stories can thrive even in fractured times.
