Dubai: Austria's Unger Steel has set up its first overseas factory in Sharjah's Hamriya Free Zone at a cost of Dh85 million.

It will have a capacity of 50,000 tonnes in the first phase, 15,000 more than the company's Austrian facility.

Production at the Sharjah factory began on April 1. Part of the output will be supplied to Unger projects in the region.

One of Unger's turnkey projects in the region is a labour accommodation complex at Hamriyah. It will have 12 buildings, accommodating 4,000 workers and 1,200 tonnes of structural steel produced in the new plant will be used on the site.
