Dubai: Successful companies know that in order to improve productivity and profitability, they have to show they truly value their staff. Small and medium enterprises who take that principle to heart are likely to make it to this year’s search for the top firms in the SME sector.
The Great Place to Work Institute (GPTW) Gulf, an affiliate of the global research, training and consultancy firm that recognises the best workplaces in over 45 countries worldwide, is now on the hunt for the UAE’s top small and medium companies.
The launch of the SME list-makers in the country is an offshoot of GPTW’s annual benchmarking study of top companies and follows increasing demand from firms with less than 50 employees to participate in the institute’s workplace assessment.
The UAE is home to more than 230,000 registered SMEs, representing a “significant participation potential” for the fee-based programme.
“Interest so far has been good. We have received a good level of interest from a wide range of industries,” said David Robert, CEO of GPTW Gulf.
Robert said the study will look into the “level of trust between three key relationships within the workplace — employees and their managers, employees and their jobs and between employees and other employees.”
“GPTW’s criteria for evaluating workplace excellence are based on employee perceptions, which account for two-thirds of the result and a management questionnaire, which accounts for the other third. Companies that achieve a final score of 70 points or more quality to make the final list of top companies,” Robert explained.
Registration is now open and will close on June 30. Winners will be announced in the fourth quarter of this year. The search is open to any UAE-based company that is two years or older with 20 to 99 employees.
