Dubai: Abu Dhabi headquartered Lulu Group is considering placing a marker on two new territories — Morocco and Indonesia — this year. This is over and above the plans that have already been announced to date for its Lulu hypermarkets in various locations in the Middle East.

While Morocco represents a natural extension into Northern Africa, with Lulu having already announced projects in Egypt, the potential move into Indonesia is rated as being dictated by market requirements.

"We already have extensive sourcing arrangements for our merchandise in the Far East, which is how we are familiar with the market in Indonesia," said a Lulu Group spokesperson. "Now, we believe we are at a stage where this knowledge can be leveraged to help us with a direct retail presence.

"The Indonesian market is primed for growth, especially in the hypermarket category."
