Sharjah: Sharjah Municipality has launched a new service that simplifies and speeds up the rental process. Thanks to a smart digital integration with the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA), tenants can now have their rental contracts approved automatically — without the need to visit offices or complete additional paperwork.

Once a tenant submits their lease, the system immediately verifies the information using existing municipal data. The approved contract is then sent directly to SEWA. Tenants receive a text message detailing the electricity deposit amount, and upon payment, their electricity connection is activated swiftly and seamlessly.

Abdullah Ali Al Shuhail, Director of the Rental Regulation Department, described the new service as a major advancement. “It saves time and effort, making life easier for everyone involved,” he said. He added that this digital link between government entities reflects Sharjah’s commitment to delivering fast, simple and convenient services.

The entire process is available through “Aqari”, Sharjah’s online platform for real estate services. The municipality collaborated with the Sharjah Digital Office and SEWA to implement this service and continues to work towards fully digitised government services.

A simple breakdown of the new rental contract certification process:

  1. Tenant submits the rental contract through the Sharjah Municipality system.

  2. The system automatically verifies the contract using existing municipal data.

  3. The approved rental contract is sent electronically to Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWA).

  4. The tenant receives a text message with the electricity deposit amount required.

  5. Tenant pays the electricity deposit through the provided payment method.

  6. Once payment is confirmed, SEWA connects the electricity service to the rented property.

All these steps happen smoothly and quickly without needing to visit offices or submit extra documents.
