Metito Overseas Ltd, a Sharjah-based specialist in desalination, water and wastewater treatment, has won a Dh13 million project at the Sohar power and desalination plant in Oman.

The project, owned by Oman's Ministry of National Economy, covers the re-mineralisation of the Multi Stage Flash process to desalinate seawater.

"Our past experience using this treatment process has been very successful in markets around the world," said Bassem Halabi, Group Business Development Director of Metito.

"This plant in particular has a capacity of 6,250 cubic metres per hour of water, which is mandatory as per the site regulations and is sufficient for 600,000 persons per day," Halabi said.

The Multi Stage Flash Evaporator process produces distilled water by heating feed water until it is ready to flash. The flashed vapour is drawn to a cooler tube bundle surface where it is condensed and collected as distillate.

This distilled water is not suitable for drinking. It has to be re-mineralised with vital minerals.
