Dubai: An Italian navy aircraft carrier is docking in Dubai for one week on Thursday, December 26, as part of a Middle East and Africa tour to boost Italy’s economic, defence and humanitarian ties with the region.

The Cavour, docking in Port Rashid for a week, until January 2, will feature exhibitions of Italian furniture and Italy’s capabilities in restoring archaeological artefacts.

Business-to-business (B2B) and government-to-government (G2G) talks will take place while the vessel is in Dubai. It will also be open to members of the public, who will need to register in advance before heading down to Port Rashid.

Giovanni Favilli, Italian Consul General in Dubai, told Gulf News the visiting vessel is an opportunity to showcase Italian capabilities across different sectors. “We want to showcase our defence capabilities and what the Italian defence industry has to offer,” he said.

The Middle East and Africa tour, which began on November 13 and includes 13 African countries and seven in the Arabian Gulf, last for six months at a reported cost of €20 million.
