To prevent irreversible climate damage, the global net human-caused emissions of carbon dioxide need to be reduced by 45% before 2030. The burning of oil is one of the largest sources of green gas emissions today, and therefore a major contributor to climate change.
However, Dana Gas, the largest non-government-owned natural gas company in the Middle East is taking on and tackling this universal challenge by providing a solution: transitioning coal and oil to natural gas, to achieve lower carbon emissions by 2030, and achieve total zero emissions by 2050.
Dana Gas is actively focused on sustainable growth and is dedicated to leading the whole MENA region forward in the transition to natural gas. With exploration and production to processing and transportation assets in the Kurdistan Region of Ira (KRI) and Egypt.
The company's per day average production in the year 2017 was 67,600 barrels of oil equivalent, with over 1 billion barrels of proved and probable oil equivalent in reserves.
The Kurdistan Gas Project
Established in 2007, The Kurdistan Gas Project pioneered the development of Iraq’s energy infrastructure and was the first of its kind in the region.
Dana Gas obtained exclusive rights to appraise, develop, produce, market, and sell hydrocarbons from the Khor Mor and Chemchemal fields in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
The plant's construction broke major industry records, as production began within 15 months of the project initiation.
With a number of innovative process developments, including debottlenecking projects in 2018 and 2022, and a bypass project in 2020, the plant's production increased by 67%, from 305 MM scf/d in 2018, to record levels of 500 MMscf/d by the end of 2022.
The plant at present fuels over 80% of the KRI’s power generation and has resulted in significant fuel cost reductions, and immense environmental benefits for the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
Additionally, Dana Gas is actively providing actionable growth opportunities to KRI locals, with 80% of the plant's current employment being local nationals. Highlighting the plants' immense economic, environmental and social impact.
