Approximately 80,000 more jobs will be made available to Filipino jobseekers on May 1, and nearly 40,000 of them will be based abroad, the Philippines’ labour department said.

The vacancies, including over 3,000 nurses and hundreds of engineers and construction workers, will be up for grabs at various job fairs to be held throughout the country during the observance of Labour Day.

The Department of Labour and Employment said that representatives of over 600 local companies and 163 international firms will be on site to meet with potential employees.

The overseas firms will be offering 3,988 positions for nurses, 1,546 for technicians, 689 for food and and beverage roles, 344 for mechanical, electrical and civil engineers and 300 for production/factory staff.

The foreign companies will also be looking to recruit 200 sales associate professionals, 200 construction workers, 174 assistant head managers, 157 cooks, 150 drivers and 123 housekeeping attendants.

For local positions, the top vacancies are for soldiers (AFP/PNP, customer service representatives, production workers/factory workers, masons, call centre agents, production machine operators, construction workers and service crew, among others.

The vacancies will be made available at 53 sites across the country through the job and business fairs organised jointly by the Department of Labour and Employment and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
