Dubai: Etisalat Academy, an Etisalat business unit, yesterday signed an agreement with Huawei Technologies to expand the academy's training expertise.

Huawei will provide the academy with the necessary tools, equipment, upgrades, training material, documentation and technical support required to deliver professional training programmes. Etisalat Academy instructors will undergo initial training in China to prepare for the training sessions in Dubai.

Ali Mohammad Al Sharid, Chief Executive Officer of Etisalat Services, said that Etisalat was pleased that Huawei chose the academy as its training centre.

"The Huawei executives were fascinated with the full facilities and resources that the academy has to offer. This training agreement will be crucial training programme for both Huawei and the academy," he added.

Increasing demand

For the past year, the academy and Huawei Technologies have been in discussions for this training partnership agreement. The negotiations resulted in Huawei appointing the academy as their regional strategic training partner for the Middle East, GCC, and Africa for the Next Generation Network and DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) training.

Wang Jiading, Executive Vice President Middle East and Northern Africa forHuawei, said that the agreement comes in line with the increasing demand on Huawei's modern network systems by telecom service providers from all over the region, he added that Etisalat Academy will play a vital role in fulfilling our increasing number of contracts.

The academy earns about Dh30 million in annual revenue said another official.
