Dubai: Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment — an agency of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing — on Wednesday announced the launch of Dubai Motor Festival.

The inaugural “Dubai Motor Festival” will run from November 5– 9, aimed at attracting motor enthusiasts from across the region and adding further activities for tourists and residents alike to the city’s entertainment offer.

With the Dubai International Motor Show as its anchor event, the Dubai Motor Festival capitalises on the success of the largest and most established motoring event in the Middle East with the addition of two other major events taking place on Friday (November 8).

In the morning, the Dubai Grand Parade will see the streets of Dubai come alive with a convoy of super luxury and classic cars and bikes passing by the city’s landmarks as car clubs, private collectors and enthusiasts join together to celebrate a mutual love of motoring, led by the fleet of Dubai Police supercars which have gained international attention in recent months.

In the evening of November 8 and at Dubai World Trade Centre, the Redbull Middle East Car Park Drift Championship will keep spectators on the edge of their seats as contestants from across the GCC and Levant compete for the coveted ‘King of Drift’ title, showcasing high-speed drifting maneuovres, steering, braking and power sliding techniques in stunning displays of driving skills. Since its inception in 2008, Red Bull Car Park Drift has become the ultimate breakthrough motor sport challenge in the GCC and Levant, and Dubai Motor Festival brings it to Dubai for the first time.

“The Dubai International Motor Show has fuelled the evolution of the motor industry in the region for more than two decades. With the 2013 edition of the Show expected to attract more than 100,000 visitors, this was the right time to capitalise on its success and move the events and entertainment past the boundaries of the exhibition and out into the city,” said Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General, Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, and CEO, Dubai World Trade Centre

The Dubai Motor Festival is the first festival to be announced by Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE) since the launch of the Dubai Tourism Vision for 2020 in May of this year.

“The Roads and Transport Authority is pleased to support this initiative which aims to reinforce Dubai’s position as a favourite destination for global entertainment events. “RTA is committed to supporting all major events in Dubai either by way of logistics or by providing other important resources such as manpower to ensure the success of each event. We follow a similar strategy for initiatives that are launched with the common goal of putting Dubai on top of the list of leading global cities with world class infrastructure and facilities such as the provision of hassle-free transportation to event venues,” said Mater Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of the Roads and Transport Authority and the Deputy Chairman of Dubai Sports Council.

“Dubai Police is ready to offer all facilities and services that are required to make this inaugural event a huge success. In this regard, “Dubai Police has met with all entities involved in organising this event to pave the way for the smooth running of the various activities at different locations. We have taken into consideration all security and safety measures to ensure that visitors and participants are able to enjoy their day out without getting caught up in traffic congestion, and are confident that the public will cooperate by adhering to the guidelines set by Dubai Police,” said Major-General Mohammad Eid Al Mansouri, Director of the General Department of Protective Security and Emergency Department at Dubai Police.
