The conclave highlighted SP Jain’s focus on future-ready, industry-aligned education
SP Jain School of Global Management hosted a high-impact Supply Chain Conclave on May 7 at Dusit Thani, bringing together industry leaders, experts, and academics to discuss innovative strategies and risk resilience in supply chains, under the theme “Supply Chain Innovations in the Era of Generative AI”.
The event kicked off with a keynote by Phil Showering, Chief Commercial Officer at Thomsun Marine & Mercantile, who delivered a compelling address on the evolving dynamics of global supply chains. Highlighting his professional journey, Phil emphasised the critical interplay between people, infrastructure, and technology in driving transformation. He also underscored the need for resilient and sustainable supply chain ecosystems prepared to navigate disruption and global demands.
Dr. Rajiv Aserkar, Professor & Head of Logistics & Supply Chain Management at SP Jain presented findings from a comprehensive survey spanning regions from the Middle East to Southeast Asia, identifying critical customer pain points including service gaps, quality issues, and environmental concerns setting the stage for a multi-year innovation roadmap from 2025 to 2026.
The panel discussion saw a dynamic exchange of ideas between prominent industry names including Gopal R (Frost & Sullivan), Pooja Awate (Maersk), Henrique Guilardi (Kuehne+Nagel), Miguel Ibarbia (Baxter A.G.), and Kumar Singla (PwC), moderated by Girija Kothapalli (Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group). Together, they addressed the pressing challenges of geopolitical instability, environmental disruption, and digital vulnerabilities that are redefining global logistics and supply chain landscapes.
The speakers emphasized the growing importance of building agile supply chain networks that can quickly adapt to disruption. Technology was presented as a vital enabler of resilience and innovation in the supply chain domain. Discussions explored the use of digital control towers, predictive analytics, and scenario-based planning tools to enhance operational visibility and responsiveness. The panelists also shared practical examples of the implementation of digital twins and AI-powered sourcing and planning tools, which are transforming the way organizations approach disruption management and efficiency optimization.
The discussion then turned to the future of the workforce in the supply chain sector. Panelists underscored the importance for upcoming professionals to be fluent in the use of AI and data analytics. They noted that while technical skills are essential, they must be complemented by strong soft skills such as communication, collaboration, and change management. As technology transforms job functions, the human ability to adapt and lead through change will remain crucial.
The conclave also highlighted SP Jain’s strong focus on future-ready education and its alignment with industry needs. The School’s Professional Readiness Program and the use of generative AI in simulation-based learning were praised by panelists and attendees alike. These initiatives are equipping students with the capabilities needed to navigate the complexities of modern global supply chains.
