Dubai: Ahmad Humaid Al Tayer has been appointed as Governor of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) as per a decree issued by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The decree has been issued in Shaikh Mohammad's capacity as a Ruler of Dubai.

The decree is effective from date of issuance and is to be published in the official gazette, WAM reported.

A former Minister of Communications, Al Tayer was also Minister of State for Financial Affairs in two Cabinets. He holds a number of positions including chairman of Emirates NBD, Commercial Bank of Dubai, vice chairman of Dubai Aluminium Company, chairman of Board of Trustees of Emirates Nationals Development Programme and chairman of Emirates Institute for Banking & Financial Studies.

Born in Dubai on October 1, 1950, Al Tayer holds a bachelors degree from College of Economics and Political Sciences, University of Cairo.

In 2007, he received the "Arab Banking Personality" award for 2006 from the Union of Arab Banks.
