Dubai: Pakistan’s newest private airline, Air Karachi, has kicked off its recruitment campaign as it prepares to launch domestic operations in the coming weeks.

The airline has begun hiring cabin crew, station managers and other essential operational staff, marking a major milestone following the recent grant of its Regular Public Transport (RPT) licence by Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Headquartered in Karachi, the commercial heart of the country, Air Karachi aims to connect domestic routes before expanding internationally. The recruitment drive signals the airline’s readiness to enter the market and deliver on its promise of affordable, customer-centric air travel.

Backed by business power

Air Karachi is led by retired Air Vice Marshal Syed Imran Majid Ali, former Southern Commander of the Pakistan Air Force. With his aviation leadership and military discipline at the helm, the airline is backed by some of Karachi’s most prominent business figures, including Aqeel Karim Dhedhi (AKD Group), Arif Habib (Arif Habib Limited), Bashir Jan Muhammad, Khalid Tawab, Zubair Tufail, Hanif Gohar, and Hamza Tabani.

Hanif Gohar is the first Chairman of Air Karachi.

Each investor has committed Rs50 million in seed funding, with a total initial investment of Rs5 billion. More funding rounds are expected as the airline scales up.

Ready for the runway

The airline is set to begin with a fleet of three leased aircraft, with plans to expand to seven aircraft within its first year. Initial routes will focus on domestic cities, especially those underserved by existing carriers, while international routes — starting with the Middle East — are in development for Phase 2.

Air Karachi has also announced a strategic partnership with Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services, ensuring high safety and performance standards from the outset.

Investors' interest

The launch comes at a time of renewed investor interest in Pakistan’s aviation sector, with new entrants like Jet Green, Q Airways, and Go Green Air also seeking approvals. Air Karachi has already completed all registrations with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and cleared regulatory checks.

The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), led by President Atif Ikram Sheikh, has endorsed Air Karachi as a model for economic self-reliance and innovation in the transport sector.

A flagship for the city of lights

Air Karachi’s founders envision the airline not just as a transport provider, but as a brand that reflects the ambition and resilience of Karachi itself — a city responsible for much of the country’s commercial vitality.

With hiring underway and operations set to begin soon, Pakistan’s aviation landscape is preparing to welcome its newest, and potentially most ambitious airline.
