What made you accept your role in the new film Sadiyaan?

My instincts! Sadiyaan is a heart-rending story about family bonds. It looks at various aspects of the parent-child relationship. It's about people who've lost a lot in life but have retained their values. The film is based in the 1940s and 1960s, but the message it conveys is timeless and is even more relevant today. Director Raj Kanwar based my character on his mother and, being a typical emotional Punjabi, wrote the script with much love. I play a Sardarni (Sikh woman) for the first time.

How is Rishi Kapoor on the sets of Sadiyaan? And Hema Malini?

It's always fun when Rishi Kapoor is around. He pulls everyone's leg. And I adore Hemaji. Though she's older to me I feel protective about her. I admire her as she has realised all her dreams.

Shatrughan Sinha's son Luv makes his debut in the film...

I've seen Luv in diapers, so we were very protective about him. Rishi gave him a lot of advice, but Luv once told me, "I'm so scared of him." And I told him, "Good! You should be scared of someone." bm
