Director-actor Ananth Mahadevan who has worked in Hindi and Marathi cinema and television serials last played a role in Kamal Haasan’s Papanasam. He plays an interesting role in Vishwaroopam 2.

Mahadevan said that his character here is different and diverse from what he did in Papanasam.

“I play a government agent, who deals with Wisam’s character. There is a mystery to him and written with grey shades, he will keep the audience wondering -‘Is he on the right side or on the wrong side.”

The Hindi and Tamil versions were shot separately and Vishwaroop is not a dubbed version in Hindi, clarified Mahadevan.

Mahadevan calls his association with Haasan a nice jugalbandhi (duet) that brought about a good rapport. He wishes it had happened earlier in my career.

After Papanasam he could not take on the offer to work in Uttama Villain but did not let go of a role in Haasan’s unreleased film, Sabash Naidu.

Describing Haasan as an intelligent and well-read actor and filmmaker, Mahadevan said, “Communication is something missing in the Mumbai industry. With Kamal, the brain-storming sessions prepared us with an insight into our roles. We could sink into the character in new ways and not in the stereotypical way. It was not just discussing about films, but also history, mythology, religion and more. We even sang songs. It was an exhilarating experience.”

Vishwaroopam 2 releases in the UAE on August 10.
