Sharjah: Al Mokawloon Al Arab (Arab Contractors) and Al Arabi Kuwait booked their spots in the knockout stages from the two groups at the Reach Target Ramadan U14 Football Tournament being held in Sharjah.

Al Arabi had started off with a 2-0 win against the Sharjah Stars and followed that up with a 1-0 win against Al Dhaid before recording their third straight win on Saturday. Al Arabi have one last match left against Al Jokar to decide positions in the group.

In Saturday’s action from Group B, the Arab Contractors became the only team in the group with an unbeaten record as they defeated Dubai 2-0, while Al Arabi Kuwait maintained their unbeaten streak from Group A with a 4-0 drubbing of Etihad Sports Academy.

Abdullah Abdul Qadir, coach of Arab Contractors — who are based in Nasr City in Cairo — was pleased with the start from his young team against some of the top junior sides from the UAE and the region. “I have high hopes for this team and we are looking forward hopefully to winning the title here,” Qadir said.

Sponsored by Huff and Puff Restaurant, Al Taghreed, EMIC, Sharjah Cement Factory, Leader Aluminium, Sadaf Restaurant and Al Hamad Building Contracting Company, the second edition of this annual competition has attracted 14 teams from Egypt, Kuwait and the UAE who are all in the running for a prize purse of Dhs100,000 when the final is held on May 23.

In other games, MBZ secured their first win with a 3-2 result against Spanish Club, while Sharjah Stars kept their hopes alive with a 3-0 win against Al Jokar.
