Official stats showed that 40 people were killed on Dubai roads during the summer months last year.

"During the period from June to August last year (2016) — 163 people died in the UAE, including 40 in Dubai,"  he said.

The official urged motorists to check their vehicle tyres and not be distracted by phones.

"Avoid speeding and tailgating as these are major causes of fatal accidents," he said
