Abu Dhabi/Dubai: Humaid Al Shemmari, a senior Mubadala executive, is to be named interim Chief Executive of Mubadala’s energy unit, a Mubadala spokesperson told Gulf News on Thursday.

Al Shemmari, who is the CEO of Mubadala Aerospace & Engineering Services, is taking over from Sultan Al Jaber who was named this month as Director General of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc). Al Jaber is also a Minister of State in the United Arab Emirates government.

Earlier, sources told Gulf News that Al Shemmari is to be appointed as acting Mubadala Energy CEO and that he would continue as the head of Mubadala Aerospace. The Mubadala spokesperson confirmed Al Shemmari’s appointment to Gulf News, however, did not say when he would officially take on the role.

Mubadala Energy, a unit of Abu Dhabi-owned Mubadala, includes companies Mubadala Petroleum, Emirates LNG and Dolphin Energy.

Al Shemmari sits on the boards of Mubadala Petroleum and Masdar, an Abu Dhabi owned company.

His appointment follows a recent shake-up at Mubadala, which is tasked with diversifying Abu Dhabi’s economy away from hydrocarbon revenues.

Earlier this week, Mubadala named Cyril Arar as the chairman of the board of directors of Strata Manufacturing replacing Al Shemmari. The position of deputy CEO of Strata was also created. Strata manufacturers composite parts in Al Ain for Airbus, Boeing and other aircraft makers.
