Muscat: Salim Al Auwfi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil and Gas, said that 437 million barrels were added to Oman’s oil and condensates reserves, as a result of new discoveries in 2015.

Al Auwfi added that the total reserves of oil and condensates amounted to about 5,373 million barrels and gas reserves stood at 22.99 trillion cubic feet by the end of 2015.

The average daily oil production had reached 981,000 barrels in 2015, an increase of 4 per cent compared to 2014, and 5,373 million cubic meters of gas in 2015, an increase of 6 per cent. Moreover, Al Auwfi pointed out that the total outputs of Sohar and Mina Al Fahal refineries stood at 85.3 million barrels in 2015.

Expansion work

Al Auwfi expected that the Sohar Refinery production will increase due to the expansion work in the refinery, to reach 247,000 barrels per day. The diesel production will be increased to 74.900 barrels per day, super fuel grade by 45,700 barrels per day, and regular fuel by 15,600 barrels per day after completing the expansion.

Al Auwfi affirmed that Oman is making continuous efforts to encourage domestic and foreign private sectors to invest in the oil and gas sectors that include exploration, production, refining and the establishment of support services for the petroleum industry projects.
