Firm was formed to retail refined products
Tokyo/Singapore: Qatar International Petroleum Marketing, also known as Tasweeq, will take over selling crude oil next year from Qatar Petroleum (QP), a separate government-owned firm, trade sources said on Friday.
Tasweeq was created in 2007 to market all Qatari refined oil products, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and condensate. From January it will also begin selling crude oil, said the sources, who had received the notice of the change in an e-mail.
"Looks like Qatar wants to unify its oil marketing," said one trader. "It won't have much impact on the market."
Qatar is one of Opec's smallest oil producers. Qatar Marine and Qatar Land are the main crude grades it produces.
Tasweeq was set up in July 2007 as the sole export marketer of Regulated Products manufactured in Qatar.
