Abu Dhabi: The first draft of the UAE energy strategy 2035 will be ready this year, a top official from the Ministry of Energy said.

“We hope with this strategy, we could manage our energy mix and have a better picture about where we are going with our natural resources,” said Dr Matar Al Neyadi, Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Energy at the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. He said a taskforce has been set up for this purpose with a membership of all the energy stake holders in the UAE.

He said there are a lot of initiatives on renewables in the UAE. “Two weeks ago Dubai announced the second phase of Mohamed Bin Rashid solar power plant with 200 mw capacity. This will be added to the grid. Abu Dhabi has its own initiatives. There are a couple of projects which are under construction in Al Ain. We expect more renewable energy will be added to the grid.”
