Manama: Qatar replaced its long-serving Energy and Industry Minister, Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiyah, in a limited cabinet reshuffle.

Al Attiyah, who retained his post as Deputy Prime Minister, was appointed Chairman of the Emiri Court, according to the decision by the Emir Shaikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatar News Agency reported. Al Attiyah was the minister of energy and industry since 1992.

Dr Mohammad Saleh Al Sada replaced Al Attiyah. He had served as the junior minister for energy and industry affairs.

Al Attiyah had overseen the build-up of Qatar's gas capacity, helping it become the world's largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG). The final phase of that effort is near completion, with the last LNG production line due to come onstream next month.

A senior Energy Ministry official said: "There will be no change to the oil policy."
